I would like to say a huge thank you to The Write Reads team for inviting me on this thrilling and creepy book’s tour. I would also like to say a huge thank you to PenguinPlatform for allowing me access to a digital copy of this intriguing book. I would also like to say a huge thank you to the creative (devious) genius, Kat Ellis, for creating another chilling, haunting and thrilling tale that has a flavour of Point Horror books and of course R L Stein in atmosphere too. Intrigued? let’s head to the blurb and find out a bit more.

From it’s creepy town mascot to the story of its cursed waterfall, Burden Falls is a small town dripping with superstition. Ava Thorn knows this well – since the horrific accident she witnessed a year ago, she’s been plagued by nightmares.

But when her school nemesis is brutally murdered and Ava is the primary suspect, she starts to wonder if the legends surrounding the town are more fact than fiction.

Whatever secrets Burden Falls is hiding, there’s a killer on the loose, and they have a vendetta against the Thorns…….

I am so excited that I am on this tour and have been able to read this, chilling and thrilling tale of murder, superstition, fear anger and hatred. All set within a small town (I wonder what it is with small towns lol) and surrounding one family’s past. I was hooked by this story’s creepy and ghostly tale, which has all the hallmarks of a good ghost/horror story, a lone teenager (with a family tragedy happening only a year ago amongst a whole family history of tragedies) finding her waking and sleeping moments filled with nightmares. There’s also a past between two family feuds that seem to stretch across the decades between the Millers and the Thorns, that is until death strikes and it becomes clear that something strange and odd is happening within this small community of Burden Falls.

I really loved the antagonistic nature between Ava and Dominic, it felt dramatic and positively brimming with suppressed desire (teenage hormones god do I no miss those lol). I also loved how everyone assumes that this is just what happens and is normal. I am also impressed with how real and moving mental health and depression is portrayed through Ava and how everyone expects her to just snap back and get on with things, even though what happened to her had such a horrific and massive impact on her life that to me I am quite surprised by how well she is holding up, and how amazing her friends are to understand when she needs time alone and when she needs someone there.

I won’t go into too much detail as I don’t want to spoil this brilliant book, but what I will say is that there are so many twists and turns and like Ava you are not sure who to trust and who could be the potential killer, all I will say is the ending will leave you gasping with eyes wide and mouth hanging open. I am still in shock now. I have loved her previous book Harrow Lake and would say this is just as good if not better. I would highly recommend this to anyone who loves Horror/thrillers, ghostly tales and mysteries. As well as those who have loved RL Stein’s work and also Point Horror books, this is just a brilliant homage to them, there is also a slight nod to Stephen King as well. So please I beg you grab a copy as soon as you can this is one book not to miss.

Ratings: 4 🌟s with a large ☕️ and a large 🍰… you will need this to sustain you 😂 honestly it will grip you.
