I would like to say a huge thank you to Emma at Damp pebbles blogs tours for organising this intriguing books tour, and I would also like to say a huge thank you to Unbound publishers for allowing me access to the digital copy of this book to review, I am extremely grateful. I would also like to thank the creative talents of the author Chris Limb, and how incredibly dark, twisty, turney and also Alice in Wonderland-like this novel is, its definitely one that takes you on a surreal adventure. So am sure you are all wanting to know what this book is all about? lets head to the blurb to find out.

Genie has everything – a BRIT award, a singing career, the attention of the press and Oliver Fox, a pretty boy who looks good on her arm.

Until he dies.

His death brings Genie’s long buried feelings bubbling to the surface. Her grief over the death of her lover Wendi who introduced her to this world. Her self doubt and fear that she will be exposed as a fraud.

How far is she prepared to go to fix things?

The afterlife isn’t the most comfortable of places for anyone who’s still alive, but Genie’s not going to any crap from the dead – she’s got years of experience in the music business.

Sometimes going to Hell and back takes a lifetime……..

Wow, this book literally punches you in the face and doesn’t hold back either from there, I felt like I was falling down into a deep dark tunnel, almost like Alice in Wonderland, except drowning in alcohol and drugs, there were moments where I was thinking I was high on something whilst reading this intriguing, strange and unsettling book. I have to admit I wasn’t at first sure what I was reading, I loved it don’t get me wrong but it is one where you either have to have something stronger than caffeine or cake…. honest by the end of this book I felt I had drunk gallons of wine/champagne and some vodka (just to you know keep up with the main character) it definitely left me feeling like I had both a hangover and a befuddled mind of… what the hell just happened?.

Aside from the strange and unsettling atmosphere of the book, it has everything you want to grip, thrill and tease you. We have a main character who at first seems to have it all, a glamorous lifestyle, a hot boy on her arm, wealth and esteem from fans and other stars, but scratch beneath the surface and you find a woman who is feeling lost, bewildered, fearful and yes drug and drunk fuelled, because Rock n Roll lifestyle. We also find out that she now has a death on her hands, her hot sexy boy has just collapsed in the shower, this soon leads her to completely lose it in her grief. All straight forward so far and you would have thought there would be some thrills and who killed Oliver? will she get arrested? but no there’s more to her than we know.

She is not just grieving for her dead hot boy, she’s in mourning for her lover, friend, soul mate and helper Wendi, and would do absolutely anything to be able to get to talk and see her lover again…. even if it means going to hell and back. This book literally takes you on a rollercoaster ride of what would happen if you could bargain with the devil? and what would the outcome be? This isn’t just a strange and weird ride, this is about second chances and redemption and trying to learn from your mistakes as well as working out who you really are when push comes to shove.

These characters just spring to life from the pages, and feel incredibly raw, emotionally and also at times vulnerable too. This makes you look harder at all the stars (who we know) and makes you wonder how they feel about themselves.. do they ever feel a moment of doubt? or even that fear that they will be considered a fraud? this also shines a light on how pop stars are seen, especially women who might not write their own lyrics, but does that give us any right to judge them more harshly than say someone who does, if its in their contract to just sit there (or stand and sing) and look pretty Is it any wonder why there are so many with break downs and a sense of spiralling out of control mess.

This book illuminates the dark side of showbiz and does not flinch at the seediness and misogynistic sleazy side to the business. It also shows how lonely and easy it is to lose yourself an everyone around you, as you become more isolated in your own wealth and as you keep getting richer. If you love the strange, unsettling and incredible second chance style novels, this is definitely one for you. I would highly recommend this book to anyone, its one that makes you think about what you treasure in life? and would you want to be rich and famous or would you wonder whether actually is all that wealth and glamour worth it.

Ratings: 4 ⭐️a with some 🍸 maybe 🍷 or πŸ₯‚ πŸ˜‰ this book definitely calls for it.
