I would like to say a huge thank you to Random Things Tours (Anne Cater) with a little help from the lovely Tracy Fenton too for organising this wonderful and thrilling book’s tour. I would also like to say a special thank you to Simon and Schuster for allowing me to read and review a physical copy of this book. I would also like to say a huge thank you to the Queen of Thrills and chills, Kathy Reichs for another outstanding and brilliant Tempe Brennan book and one that is more personal to the character than any other. Intrigued? Let’s head over to the blurb to find out a bit more.
In a profession like this, you’re bound to make enemies…..
An eye…..
It all starts when Dr Temperance Brennan finds a box on her porch. Inside is a fresh human eyeball with GPS coordinates etched into it. They lead her to a macabre discovery in a Benedictine Monastery, and soon after she discovers a mummified corpse in a state park.
For an eye…..
There seems to be no pattern to these killings, except that each mimics a killing connected to something a younger Tempe experienced, or barely escaped. Someone is targeting her, and she needs to figure out why before they strike again.
And then her daughter Katy disappears….
Someone is playing a dangerous game with Tempe. And they won’t stop until they have taken everything from her…..
I was instantly hooked and mesmerised by the latest instalment from the Queen of thrillers and her determined forensic anthropologist alter ego, Temperance Brennan (Dr). As I have mentioned before I am a huge fan of this series and have never been disappointed by any of the stories which come out from the mind of this devious author. And this one is no exception, in fact this one feels more thrilling and more fresh, as we see a vulnerable side to Tempe (it has been shown before and mentioned in one of her earlier novels where a killer tries to get inside her head by threatening her daughter) but this time will the threat actually become a reality and will Tempe find the clues to work out why or will it end in a personal tragedy?…. Don’t worry there will be no spoilers.
(Sorry if you are hoping for one, I don’t do that on here). I absolutely loved getting back with Tempe and her friends, colleagues and of course (lover boy Andy Ryan) and how it’s not always the strangers you have to worry about. What I also loved about this book, was how it looked at how veterans of the army are treated when they come back from war and how their mental health is treated or not. How as a society we treat them when we have no idea what they have seen or dealt with. This really looks at the issues of depression, PTSD and many other diagnoses that lead these men and women to fall through the cracks in society and which can make them become invisible to us. It’s not just looking at the usual serial killer versus the hounds of justice but how as a society we are also to blame for not caring for our destitute and homeless.
This is an excellent and twisted book, I would highly recommend this and the rest of the series if you haven’t already read the series.

Ratings: 5 🌟s with a large ☕️ and a large 🍰 (this book will have you hooked, I warn you, you won’t be able to put it down).
Author’s Blurb:

Kathy Reichs’s first novel Deja Dead, published in 1997, won the Ellis Award for Beat First Novel and was an international bestseller. Cold, Cold Bones is Kathy’s twenty-first entry in her series featuring forensic anthropologist, Temperance Brennan. Kathy was also a producer of Fox Television’s longest running scripted drama, Bones, which was based on her work and her novels. One of the very few forensic anthropologists certified by the American Board of Forensic Anthropology, Kathy divides her time between Charlotte, North Carolina, and Montreal, Quebec.
I hope you have enjoyed this fantastic, gripping and thrilling journey into the dark heart of revenge, obsession and mental health. If you are wanting to grab a copy for yourself, you can find this in Waterstones, any independent store and of course on Amazon. I will leave you now to say Happy Reading and see you all soon!!!
